Justice Oriented Intercultural Learning
Graduate Leadership Institute
Participants of the Graduate Leadership Institute (GLI) attended a series of 9 theory-based, interactive, leadership development sessions. Participants developed skills through activities designed to explore leadership competencies, discussion of case studies and participation in weekly self-reflections. The GLI participants completed the program with a group presentation about a specific leadership competency. This is a Level 2 badge. 

Earning Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding for leadership development theory and learning domains through a group presentation on a specific leadership competency
  • Gained insights through the Clifton Strengths assessment to adapt to a myriad of challenges faced by leaders in their professional fields utilizing their natural strengths
  • Connected social justice activities with leadership development
  • Provided and accepted constructive feedback to and from peers
Canadian Workplaces Readiness- Level 2, ASCEND

Canadian Workplace Readiness – Level 2

Recipients of the Canadian Workplace Readiness badge completed online modules through which they accessed direct insights into Canadian employer expectations, workplace cultures, and professional communication. Through face-to-face role-playing and discussion, participants further explored each topic with attendees from Canada and around the world. The ASCEND program was sponsored by the Immigrant Employment Council of BC and delivered by Northeastern University.

Earning Criteria

  • Engaged and built relationships with people from different cultures and contexts
  • Calibrated one’s behavior and communication to exhibit cultural sensitivity in a Canadian professional and social settings
  • Negotiated and engaged in dialogue to resolve or transform social or interpersonal conflicts
  • Identified and articulated one’s own identities and the intersectionality of those identities
  • Identified how to leverage networks with people of varying backgrounds, roles, and perspectives to achieve professional and/or personal goals
  • Reflected on learning and experience, sought feedback, and took actions to achieve professional goals
  • Identified how to build meaningful relationships with individuals who provide guidance and support
LIBRE

Leading Inclusion and Belonging with Resources and Education (LIBRE)

LIBRE is a series of workshops designed to equip student leaders with a justice-oriented and intercultural leadership framework in order to create a community of belonging within Northeastern and other spheres of influence. Members of the collective can expect to reflect on their identity, foster intercultural engagement skills, and develop social justice consciousness while building meaningful connections with their peers. This is a level 3 badge.

Earning Criteria

  • Participated in 6 core-content workshops and completed pre/post session reflection/readings
  • Choose 2 electives workshops to deepen identity-specific competencies
  • Completed a theory into action project that displayed an embodied approach to a justice-oriented leadership framework.
  • Completed a theory into action project
  • Attendance is recorded as well as reflection questions and activities in Canvas.
